I participate in the Beanstalk county food program. As part of the food program, specific requirements must be met in providing a healthy, balanced diet.

An example of the requirements for a child over 1 year include:

  • One serving of milk with breakfast and lunch.
  • One serving of a fruit or vegetable with breakfast, and two servings with lunch.
  • One serving of a grain with breakfast and lunch.
  • One serving of a meat or meat substitute with lunch.
  • One serving of any TWO of these categories for the afternoon snack.

This is a sample menu for a week in my care:

Homemade cheese pizza with salami/pepperoni, fruit cocktail, squash, and milk

Goldfish and 100% fruit juice

Thursday

Blueberry muffin, banana, and milk

Scrambled eggs, squash and peas in a tortilla, and milk

Homemade oatmeal cookies and milk

Friday

Rice Krispies with milk and strawberries

Peanut Butter and applesauce sandwich, banana and milk

Cheese stick and grapes

Every weekend I try to make it to the Farmer's Market in our area to get fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables.
